Portsmouth Rules

  1. This competition is to be treated as an inter-club competition for Somerset clubs. All members of the Club Team must be members of the Club, not visitors, and must be affiliated to Somerset County Archery Association. Archers may shoot for a club which is not their first claim club; that is the club through which the archer’s Archery GB annual subscription fee has been paid, with the consent of their first claim club. If an archer is a member of more than one Club in the county, the archer may shoot the Frostbite and Portsmouth competitions for different clubs, with the consent of their first claim club. Having submitted a score in either competition for a given club, the archer cannot shoot for another club in the same competition, for that season.
  2. Five dozen arrows must be shot either indoors or outdoors at a distance of 20 yards on a 60cm face. Six sighters will be allowed before scoring commences.
    1. Recurve, barebow and longbow scoring 10, 9, 8, etc. Only tens count as golds.
    2. Compound bows scoring inner 10, 9, 8, etc. Only inner tens count as golds (As per normal indoor GNAS rules).
  3. A senior Club Team will consist of up to four archers, and may include any number of compound archers. A junior Club Team will consist of up to three archers, and may include any number of compound archers. More than one team can be entered per club if you have enough members, up to a maximum of four teams.
  4. Scores will be adjusted for gender, age group, and bow type using the Equivalence Calculator tables below.
  5. Age groups are as defined by Archery GB:
    Archers may compete in the Under 12 category to the end of the calendar year containing their 11th birthday.
    Archers may compete in the Under 14 category to the end of the calendar year containing their 13th birthday.
    Archers may compete in the Under 15 category to the end of the calendar year containing their 14th birthday.
    Archers may compete in the Under 16 category to the end of the calendar year containing their 15th birthday.
    Archers may compete in the Under 18 category to the end of the calendar year containing their 17th birthday.
    Archers may compete in the Under 21 category to the end of the calendar year containing their 20th birthday.
    Archers may compete in the Adult category at any age.
    Archers may compete in the 50+ category at any time during the calendar year of their 50th birthday and thereafter.
  6. Junior archers are defined as competing in the Under 21 or younger categories.
  7. There will be a senior and junior league, numbers permitting. All references below to a “Club Team” will refer to either senior or junior club team.
  8. A Club may shoot as many Portsmouth competitions per month as it wishes throughout the winter season, October to March.
  9.  An individual archer may shoot multiple times during the month and submit their best score. If multiple rounds are shot on a given day, only the first round shot is eligible for the competition. All rounds must be shot at the clubs registered range.
  10. Junior achers may be included in both junior and senior teams.
  11. An individual archer may shoot and enter scores for different bow types, but the rounds must be shot on different days.
  12. Completed scores should be submitted from the web site using the relevant link from the Postal Comps page at http://www.somersetarchery.co.uk. Scores must be submitted no later than the tenth day of the next month. i.e. scores for October must be submitted no later than the 10th November.
  13. In the event of a tie of adjusted scores in the month, the team with the most hits, then golds will gain the highest points.
  14. The trophy for the winning Team will be presented at the Somerset Inter-Club tournament in September of each year.
  15. In the event of a tie of points at the end of the competition, the team with the highest adjusted score will be declared the winner. If both are tied then the result is tied.

    The table above is an extract of the Equivalence Calculator for Men 50+ or Men U21 (both age groups have the same score adjustment. The adjusted score for an archer who shoots 497 is 526 for a recurve archer, 460 for a  compound archer, 562 and for a barebow archer and 598 for a longbow archer.
